Anxiety lives in the body, not just the mind. You feel it in your chest, your shoulders, your jaw, your gut — and you probably already know that thinking your way out of it doesn't work.
We offer two approaches that work directly with the nervous system.
Acupuncture is in-person and body-based — working through meridians, qi, and the energetic body to regulate the nervous system at every level, subtle and physiological.
Somatic coaching is body-centered therapy for trauma, dysregulation, and what the nervous system holds that talk therapy can't always reach. The work happens at the level of sensation and felt sense — engaging the body's own intelligence to meet patterns where they actually live. Available in person and virtually. A lot of people do both.
Two Paths In
Anxiety is often a pattern of unsettled Shen — the spirit that resides in the Heart. Acupuncture calms the Shen, moves stagnant qi, and restores the foundation a settled nervous system needs. It shifts you out of fight-or-flight, reduces cortisol, increases serotonin and endorphins, and interrupts the physiological loop that keeps anxiety running. You often fall asleep on the table.
Some things don't live in the story — they live in held breath, braced shoulders, a body that never fully relaxes. Somatic coaching with Janaye works at exactly that level: body-centered, non-judgmental, and available wherever you are. Sessions draw on breathwork, movement, somatic awareness practices, and nervous system education to help you build a different relationship with what your body has been holding. This isn't talk therapy — it's working with the body directly to shift patterns that words alone don't always reach. Particularly effective for trauma, chronic anxiety, freeze states, and emotional dysregulation.
What We Work With
These aren't separate diagnoses in Chinese medicine — they're different expressions of the same underlying pattern. We treat the pattern.
The kind that wakes you up at 3am, lives in your chest, and follows you into every room. We work at the nervous system level — not just the thoughts.
Acupuncture reduces the background hypervigilance that primes the body for panic. Most people notice fewer and less intense attacks within a few sessions.
A nervous system stuck in threat detection — scanning, bracing, startling, never fully safe. Acupuncture and somatic work address the body's held state directly, not just the memories.
Flatness, disconnection, a heaviness that doesn't lift. Chinese medicine sees these as distinct patterns — and treats them differently from anxiety, even when they coexist.
Not tired — depleted. The kind where rest doesn't help. This is a recognizable pattern in Chinese medicine, and it responds well to consistent care.
Post-viral fatigue, HPA axis dysregulation, the exhaustion that outlasts any reasonable explanation. Chinese medicine has been mapping this pattern for centuries.
Dissociation, numbness, collapse, the inability to feel or respond — the dorsal vagal state that looks like depression but isn't. Somatic coaching is particularly effective here.
Flooding, explosive anger, emotional shutdown, the feeling of having no volume dial. These are nervous system patterns — not character flaws — and they shift with the right support.
IBS, chest tightness, tension headaches, chronic nausea, palpitations that clear medically — physical symptoms rooted in nervous system dysregulation. We treat the source.
Sensory overwhelm, light and sound sensitivity, easily overstimulated — a nervous system with a hair trigger. This is a real physiological state, not anxiety about anxiety.
Loss doesn't need to be pathologized — but your body still needs tending. We make space for grief without rushing it.
Racing mind, waking at 2–4am, can't wind down — anxiety and sleep feed each other. We interrupt the loop at the nervous system level.
In Chinese medicine, these have specific organ patterns and real physical roots. We don't judge them — we treat them.
For what lives in the body rather than the story — where talk therapy has reached its limit. Somatic coaching and acupuncture work together here in a way nothing else quite does.
The Process
A thorough intake about your history, nervous system patterns, and what you've already tried. We listen before we do anything. Your care plan comes from that conversation.
Most anxiety and stress patterns respond to weekly sessions initially. You'll often notice a shift in sleep or baseline tension before anything else — that's the nervous system recalibrating.
If what you're carrying lives more in the body than in diagnosable symptoms, Janaye can meet you there — in person or virtually, on your schedule. Many people do both; some start with coaching and add acupuncture later.
The goal isn't indefinite management — it's a nervous system that's learned a different baseline. Most people taper visits as their pattern stabilizes, not increase them.
Investment
Full intake, nervous system assessment, and treatment. The first session is where we understand your pattern — everything after builds on it.
Ongoing treatment. Nervous system patterns shift with consistency — most people feel meaningfully different within 4–6 sessions.
With Janaye. Individual sessions for nervous system regulation, trauma, and emotional patterns. Couples sessions for co-regulation and connection. In person or virtually — wherever works for you.

Common Questions
Yes — and there's solid science behind it. Acupuncture activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reduces cortisol, and increases serotonin and endorphin levels. Most people notice a real shift within the first few sessions.
Acupuncture works physically — needles, in-person, with your body's energy and nervous system. Somatic coaching is body-centered work: breathwork, awareness practices, and movement to release held patterns. It's available virtually. A lot of people do both, because they reach the same thing from different angles.
Almost always yes. Talk therapy works with the story and the thoughts. Acupuncture and somatic work address what lives in the body — the held breath, the braced jaw, the chest that doesn't fully relax. Many therapists actively refer their clients to us for this reason.
No. A long history of anxiety means your nervous system has been in a pattern for a long time — but patterns shift. We've seen meaningful change in people who've struggled for decades and tried many things.
Burnout is exhaustion that doesn't lift with rest. It's a pattern of depletion that goes deeper than a bad week. Chinese medicine has very specific ways of seeing and treating this — it's not just 'take a vacation.'
We're out-of-network. If you have out-of-network benefits, your insurance may reimburse a portion of your visit cost. We provide a superbill (an itemized receipt) you can submit directly to your insurance. HSA and FSA are also accepted. We can also bill insurance directly for a small fee.
Come as you are. No story to perfect. Just book a visit and we'll figure out together what your nervous system actually needs.
